An Iraqi journalist, he worked as a reporter and then editor for the Washington Post in the Baghdad and Cairo offices between 2003 and 2011, as part of the Arabic section and then editor for the Boston Globe newspaper between 2011 and 2013.

• Recipient of the Press Courage Award for corruption in Iraq for the year 2010
• His book “ISIS Propaganda and Recruitment” was published by him in partnership with Muhammad Abu Rumman and Hassan Abu Haniyeh, sponsored by the Friedrich Erbet Foundation, in 2014 in Amman.
